Curse?

NY Yankees unearth buried Red Sox jersey from new stadium

NEW YORK (AP)—A construction worker’s bid to curse the New York Yankees by planting a Boston Red Sox jersey in their new stadium was foiled when the home team removed the offending shirt from its burial spot.

After locating the shirt in a service corridor behind what will be a restaurant in the new Yankee Stadium, construction workers jackhammered through the concrete Sunday and pulled it out.

The team said it learned that a Red Sox-rooting construction worker had buried a shirt in the new Bronx stadium, which will open next year across the street from the current ballpark, from a report in the New York Post on Friday.

Yankees president Randy Levine said team officials at first considered leaving the shirt where it was.

“The first thought was, you know, it’s never a good thing to be buried in cement when you’re in New York,” Levine said. “But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing?”

On Saturday, construction workers who remembered the employee, Gino Castignoli phoned in tips about the shirt’s location.

“We had anonymous people come tell us where it was, and we were able to find it,” said Frank Gramarossa, a project executive with Turner Construction, the general contractor on the site.

It took about five hours of drilling Saturday to locate the shirt under 2 feet of concrete, he said.

On Sunday, Levine and Yankees CEO Lonn Trost watched as Gramarossa and foreman Rich Corrado finished the job and pulled the shirt from the rubble.

In shreds from the jackhammers, the shirt still bore the letters “Red Sox” on the front. It was a David Ortiz jersey, No. 34.

Trost said the Yankees had discussed possible criminal charges against Castignoli with the district attorney’s office.

“We will take appropriate action since fortunately we do know the name of the individual,” he said.

A spokesman for Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said Sunday he did not know whether any criminal charges might apply.

“It’s typical Yankees,” Castignoli told the Boston Herald on Monday. “It’s not like I snuck in there. It didn’t do any structural damage. I didn’t put anyone in harm’s way.”

Castignoli, 46, said he became a Red Sox fan during his childhood in 1975 when he idolized slugger Jim Rice.

As construction began for the new Yankee Stadium, Castignoli said his union got after him to work on the project. The Red Sox fan was reluctant.

“I would not go near Yankee Stadium, not for all the hot dogs in the world,” he told the Herald.

But he relented, and hatched the plan to plant the jersey. He said he worked just a single day at the stadium project.

“It was worth it,” he said.

Levine said the shirt would be cleaned up and sent to the Jimmy Fund, a charity affiliated with Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Along with that, New York will send a Yankees Universe T-shirt, which is sold to benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

“Hopefully the Jimmy Fund will auction it off and we’ll take the act that was a very, very bad act and turn it into something beautiful,” he said.

Weekend.....

I read Emily's blog and thought this was a good idea... Weekend update! On Friday after work, I came home to find a messy house.. oh wait it has been like that for a while! I have been getting ready to do a yard sale and with the weather on Friday I decided that I would wait a bit to do it. I have been cleaning my house and trying to get things together.. I have piles and piles of clothes that no longer fit the kids, and toys galore! Does anyone else feel that they can sit and clean and clean you walk out of the room to clean another and come back and it is a mess again? My word, what is up with kids these days! I am going to make them put all their toys in their room and that is the only place that they can play! So on Saturday, I was woke up by two little kids saying Mommy go outside and play and lets watch 'cars'. I got up and realized it was going to be an amazing day! I called my mom and dad and asked they would bring me down the lawn mower so that I could mow the lawn. (man, you really do take for granted having a husband.. I wish someone would come and do this for me weekly!!) I went out to mow the lawn and here come the kids in mismatch socks, and winter coats. I started laughing.. not only were they wearing coats but they both had shorts on! (only in Utah will you see this!) Oakley brought out his bubble lawn mower and started mowing the lawn that I had just done. He is so cute.

Since the weather was being good to me, I decided to take a run to the dump and get rid of some garbage that was piling up. I called my dad and asked him if he would bring me a wheel barrel so that I could move the remainder of the rocks that were delivered to my house and put them in my driveway.. again where was a man! I have not worked so hard in one day.. not only outside, but I cleaned my house again! and again! But it was nice to be outside and enjoy the fresh air and sun! We even got a little red!

Today, we got up and went to church. It felt like we were new to the ward again! We have not been to our church in over a month.. Crazy.... I have some of the funniest kids! Oakley was eating fruit snacks during sacrament meeting and dropped one. He looked at the guy behind us and said 'get it'. The guy looked and him and then to the ground and back to his book. Oakley let out a sigh got off the bench, walked around picked it up showed the guy and put it in his mouth then walked around and sighed again. (in his mind he thought that the guy was crazy because he did not pick it up and listen to him!) The guy behind us looked at the ground again, then back to his book!

When we got home it was nap time.. Oakley would not go to sleep for the life of me.. I was tired and sore from yesterday and Harley was already asleep. He wanted to wrestle.. man was I wore out. I had hamburger thawing out so that we could make a good dinner. Harley woke up and wanted a bowl of cereal before we ate. I let them eat a bowl and while Oakley was eating he fell asleep. Here are some pictures of him. It was so cute, He was even feeding himself while asleep and would not let go of the spoon!

Why me!!?

Why is it that kids will only watch a couple movies until you are going NUTS? Oakley has watched Cars 5 times today.. I swear I can hide it and he will find it.. I think that I have the whole show memorized. He even has everything Cars.. he has all of the Cars that you can think of.. even a book to read before bed! If it is not Cars it is Nemo!... I went through the Nemo stage with Harley when it first came out.. She would watch it nightly.. Now with Oakley... ugh..

Harley will fight with Oakley to watch some of her Favorite shows.. It is usually one of these two... Ella Enchanted or the Harry Potter Series.. Any one have any ideas on other shows that I can get my kids to watch!? I am seriously going to throw the dvd player away!

Pirate?

Today at daycare.. yes I know alot happens at that time! Elizabeth, Emily's daughter cut herself and needed a bandaide.. Oakley being the stinker that he is, started crying and wanted one also. He then got one and Emily asked where he wanted it.. He wanted it on his 'owie'! Here are some pictures of him!
Don't mind his Halloween sweats! Harley picked his clothes out for today and when I went to change them, they both got mad!

Poor Guy...

I was getting ready to start eating my dinner tonight and I got this text from Mike saying look, Oakley fell up the stairs.. I think that he is going to have a black eye.. And then the picture came.. Poor guy.. but how do you fall up the stairs and end up with a swollen blue eye? Beyond my imagination.. I could never figure it out!

I then pick the kids up from Mike at the gas station like we always do.. (yes it is convienant) NOT! Oakley gets in the car and says Owie mommy.. I said did you fall and hit your eye. He shook his head and then pointed to his eye. As Mike is telling me that he fell down the stairs too and bonked his head.. My thought.. what is going on... But then again what do I do.. It could have happened at my house too.. Here is a picture as he was going to bed.. His eye is swollen more and way bruised.. I can't wait to see what it looks like in the morning.. Or do I want to?m (don't mind the dirty face. he has a thing with chocolate!)

Only in Utah.....

I received this as an email today and started laughing.. It is so true!

A man was being tailgated by a woman on Foothill
Boulevard in Salt Lake City.

Suddenly, the light turned yellow just in front of
him. He did the right thing, stopping at the
crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red
light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman slammed on the brakes and leaned
on the horn. She opened her window, stuck her hand out
and made a gesture, all the while screaming in
frustration as she missed her chance to get through
the intersection with him.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her
window and looked up into the face of a very serious
police officer.

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her
hands up. He took her to the police station where she
was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed
in a cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the
cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the
booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting
with her personal effects.

He said, 'I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I
pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your
horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and
cussing a blue streak at him.

I noticed the 'Choose The Right' license plate holder,
the 'Families are Forever' bumper sticker, the 'Follow
Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker, and the
chrome-plated Angel Moroni emblem on the trunk.

Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car.'

Weekend Project

This weekend I was sitting home watching myself some t.v. I was watching a show on the fashion industry and the fashion show in New York. As I sat there and was watching these girls sit and sew and design their clothes (although some of them I would NEVER purchase or think of wearing) I got the wild hair that I do at times. I went to the fabric store and checked out some of the patterns that they had there. Luckily, all the patterns that I really liked were on sale for less than 2 bucks.. who could not take up that offer... So with the 2 dollar patterns I had a 40% off coupon.. I found some really cute fabric.. Yes, as you can tell it is baseball's and it is red! I have sat and decided when to start making this dress.. So during conference I sat in front of the t.v. watching and sewing.. Here is the start and finished product. I can not wait to make a pair of shorts for Oakley to match!!
This picture is not a good one of the dress.. I had to tie the strings with out a body to measure them on. It is really cute! I can not wait to let Harley see it! (and the other ones that I have been making since finishing this one!)
